Finder allows you to apply a color label to files. Use the label filter to show only files of certain labels.
If you know the kind of file you're looking for, use the file type filter to limit the kinds of files that are displayed.
Often, the files you need are the files you recently interacted with: recently created, recently modified, or recently accessed.
If you remember the name or even just part of the name of the file you're after, you can type what you remember and Eureka will show you everything that matches.
